The first annual Directors University will be held June 5-8, 2017 in Springfield.  This week-long state-wide initiative is intended for first-time public library directors from all size public libraries.

The workshops will train public library directors on both administrative and leadership skills. The University will also provide opportunities for networking, team building, small informal discussions, and more.

Lodging will be made available at the State House Inn, 101 E. Adams Street, Springfield.

We’re more than halfway there!
With over 300 libraries having completed their certifications and just over 200 left,
the annual online certification process is well underway.

This is a two step process:

The first step is to complete the Interlibrary Loan Traffic Survey. Information can be found at:

The Office Hours page on the IHLS website includes the IHLS procedures for closing due to emergencies or inclement weather. If you have not already done so, visit this page to sign up for the IHLS Text Alert System service. IHLS will send out text alerts for weather delays, building closings, and route changes.

Did you miss the Members Matter on January 5? In additional to Leslie Bednar, Ellen Popit, and Susan Palmer highlighting what was happening at the system, other topics of interest included:

There has been some confusion as to whether or not we still do Delivery On the Go (DOG).  DOG is where a library, on the same route, has requested an item for delivery. That item may be able to be delivered later that day when the driver arrives at that library.  DOGs are only available if that library is on the same route as your library and delivery is scheduled to arrive at the receiving library later that day.

Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) is an organization dedicated to providing high quality services to its 539 members in central and southern Illinois. Our primary annual revenue is the System Area and Per Capita (SAPC) grant from the Illinois State Library/Secretary of State. For several years the annual grant appropriation for IHLS has been approximately $3.36 M. We very recently learned from the Illinois State Library our appropriation for the current fiscal year (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016) will be approximately $1.97 M--a decrease of 42%.

IHLS placed a bulk order of the latest edition of Illinois Library Laws & Rules (2015)!

The books are available to our members at $22.50/copy.  We strongly recommend all members have at least one copy for their library due to the very recent changes in the Library System service standards.  The books are also available to ILA members for $25/copy and $50/copy for nonmembers.
