Attention IHLS libraries:

NOTE: We have extended the nomination process for IHLS Board of Directors open positions election ballot.  We really need public library trustees to run for the 2 open slots.  We encourage public library directors to share this email with their trustees.

At the January meeting of the Illinois Heartland Library System, two items were approved by the board in a first reading and are now being sent out for member comment.

The first item is a revision of the board by-laws.  Article VIII of the bylaws that were approved in July, 2011 called for the establishment of Advisory Councils.   In reality, that was never a successful model for IHLS and in July, 2016 we began holding “Members Matter” meetings at locations throughout the system.  The revision approved by the board reflects the movement from the Advisory Council Model to the “Members Matters” meetings

The second item approved by the board for member comment was a policy created to address requests that come to the system for sponsorships and endorsements.

Illinois Heartland Library System recognizes how important delivery is to you and your library patrons. As we evaluate our services, we need your help to better understand your library’s delivery needs.

We’re more than halfway there!
With over 300 libraries having completed their certifications and just over 200 left,
the annual online certification process is well underway.

This is a two step process:

The first step is to complete the Interlibrary Loan Traffic Survey. Information can be found at:  https://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/libraries/ill_survey.html

The Office Hours page on the IHLS website includes the IHLS procedures for closing due to emergencies or inclement weather. If you have not already done so, visit this page to sign up for the IHLS Text Alert System service. IHLS will send out text alerts for weather delays, building closings, and route changes.

Did you miss the Members Matter on January 5? In additional to Leslie Bednar, Ellen Popit, and Susan Palmer highlighting what was happening at the system, other topics of interest included:

There has been some confusion as to whether or not we still do Delivery On the Go (DOG).  DOG is where a library, on the same route, has requested an item for delivery. That item may be able to be delivered later that day when the driver arrives at that library.  DOGs are only available if that library is on the same route as your library and delivery is scheduled to arrive at the receiving library later that day.

Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) is an organization dedicated to providing high quality services to its 539 members in central and southern Illinois. Our primary annual revenue is the System Area and Per Capita (SAPC) grant from the Illinois State Library/Secretary of State. For several years the annual grant appropriation for IHLS has been approximately $3.36 M. We very recently learned from the Illinois State Library our appropriation for the current fiscal year (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016) will be approximately $1.97 M--a decrease of 42%.

IHLS placed a bulk order of the latest edition of Illinois Library Laws & Rules (2015)!

The books are available to our members at $22.50/copy.  We strongly recommend all members have at least one copy for their library due to the very recent changes in the Library System service standards.  The books are also available to ILA members for $25/copy and $50/copy for nonmembers.
