The O’Fallon Public Library seeks a friendly, positive, enthusiastic, tech-savvy, customer-oriented individual to fill a part-time position at our busy Circulation Desk. Last fiscal year, more than 150,000 people visited the library and more than 380,000 items were checked out.
Schedule will average 10-14 hours per week and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours and is subject to change depending on library staffing needs. Flexibility and an ability to work more hours when needed are required.
Primary duties include assisting library customers in person or by phone, performing all duties associated with an automated circulation system, processing library card applications and orienting patrons to library services, assisting customers with book selections and using the SHARE catalog. May also be assigned to assist with special events or work on projects as assigned by the Circulation Manager or Director.
Must have great interpersonal communication skills and enjoy working with people, as this job requires a high level of interaction with the public. An ability to multi-task and prioritize while exceeding the needs of our patrons is also desired. Technology proficiency and the ability to explain basic computer skills and online library resources to customers are required. Physical demands include lifting up to 25 pounds, as well as sitting, standing, reaching, and crouching, and repetitive tasks. Minimum educational requirements are a high school diploma, and at least six months customer service work experience. Previous library experience is highly desirable.
Beginning salary: $10.73/hr.
