The St. Louis Public Library is seeking a Manager of Cataloging to supervise the Library’s Cataloging department in Technical Services. 

The St. Louis Public Library serves the City of St. Louis with 16 locations. The renovation and renewal of Central Library is a major emphasis in 2011 and 2012.

This position supervises 5 staff members cataloging 30,000 titles annually in a variety of formats, content, and age levels. This manager will set standards and evaluate quality and productivity. The Library’s Technical Services department uses OCLC Connexion and SirsiDynix Symphony ILS to order, catalog, and process 150,000 items annually.  Materials funds total $2.9 million. The Library uses Dewey classification and Library of Congress subject headings.

Education and Experience: ALA accredited M.L.S. required. Three years experience that includes significant cataloging experience.

Knowledge and ability: Thorough knowledge of cataloging and classification procedures, bibliographic resources including OCLC.  Knowledge of cataloging standards to include AACR, Dewey, LCSH, MARC formats. Ability to plan, organize, and manage operations of the unit and to effectively motivate and manage staff. Knowledge of library materials, issues and trends in the field, and ability to apply that knowledge appropriately.
