Questions from Connect with Leslie
Several questions came up during yesterday’s "Connect with Leslie". While we did not immediately have the answers, we wanted to share them with you here.
When will the ILL module be ready to go for members? Before being ready to go for members, the holds issues need to be resolved and working smoothly. We anticipate the ILL module to be ready in a month.
When will Telephony module be ready to go for members? Polaris is finalizing the installation now. All hardware is in place. We don't have an exact date from Polaris, but expect it to be done in the next 2 weeks.
When will the Acquisitions module be ready to use for members? Acquisitions and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) work hand in hand. While the modules are ready to use, libraries first need to attend training. There will be settings and background work that will need to be completed by the library as well as Polaris. Some of the instruction for using these two functions will be individualized by library. If your library has committed to purchasing these Polaris functions, and you are ready to start working on it, please contact Joan Bauer (firstname.lastname@example.org | 217-352-0047) to set up training.
A recording of the meeting is unavailable. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Statistics indicate that in the US, approximately 10% of people have some type of disability that might qualify them for Talking Book services. Sadly, many people do not take advantage of the service simply because they are unaware of it. The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped has been in existence for over 80 years but surprisingly, it often seems to be a well-kept secret.
Libraries can better serve some patrons simply by informing them of this free, mail order library service that is available to individuals who have difficulty reading standard print. Talking Books staff can provide applications and brochures for distribution at your library. Libraries can also borrow digital audio players and books for demonstration purposes. In addition, we would be happy to provide informative programming to help raise awareness of the services that are available.
For information, contact the Illinois Talking Book Outreach Center( 800-426-0709 | email@example.com) http://www.
We were very pleased to learn that Diana Brawley Sussman and her colleagues at the Carbondale Public Library nominated the IHLS SHARE staff & SHARE Committees for the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Demco Award for 2013. We were selected to receive the award, which will be presented at the ILA awards ceremony on October 15, 2013, at Navy Pier in Chicago. Thanks for thinking of us, Diana and colleagues!
