October IHLS Board Meeting
The next IHLS Board meeting is Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The meeting will be available via videoconferencing the IHLS Champaign and Edwardsville locations, as well as the Illinois State Library. If you are not able to join us in Effingham, perhaps one of these other locations will be more convenient. When available, you will find the October agenda and board packet here.
Connect with Leslie
Give us a half hour, and we’ll fill you in on what is happening at IHLS. The next Connect with Leslie meeting is Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Visit the Connect with Leslie page on the IHLS website to access the link for the meeting. Register in L2 at: http://www.librarylearning.
Operations Managers are now settled in at all three locations. To facilitate faster sorting which results in quicker turnaround of library materials, IHLS member libraries should continue using the Champaign and Decatur hub codes (even though the Decatur Hub is located in Champaign). ILDS has indicated that their contract requires one hub code per delivery location. ILDS materials currently can only use the code ZCH. This has caused some confusion. IHLS is working on a resolution.
We are continuing to do recruiting for Courier Drivers. Simultaneously, the Decatur and Du Quoin hubs have almost all new Courier Drivers, so training continues to be a high priority. Except in response to requests from member libraries, routes have now been stabilized
The Operations team really wants to thank its member libraries for your patience during this period of tremendous change.

The eRead Illinois project team had a great time at ILA this past week! Thanks to all of the IHLS members who attended the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 and 3M Cloud Library demos. We also really enjoyed speaking with you at our exhibit booth. A recurring question we received was: “How much will participating in eRead Illinois cost my library?” IHLS is happy to announce that the eRead Illinois advisory team is committed to establishing an e-book program that is available to Illinois libraries after the two-year grant period. Therefore, the following criteria were established for the eRead Illinois membership fee. The eRead Illinois Membership Fee Structure includes:
Libraries participating in the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 collection (non-SHARE members) can sign up now by visiting the RAILS website. Libraries participating in the 3M Cloud Library (SHARE members) will be able to sign up during the “try before you buy” free trial period in the months of November and December. Stay tuned for more information, including a chance to request a membership fee quote for your library, coming next week!
Don’t forget that there are several chances to learn more about the eRead Illinois project in the coming weeks. Non-SHARE member libraries are invited to a live demo of the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 platform on October 30 from 2 - 4 pm at the Lincoln Library in Springfield. Register in L2 to attend. SHARE member libraries are encouraged to contact Lesley Zavediuk, the IHLS e-book trainer/coordinator, at lzavediuk@illinoisheartland.
We're back! You may have noticed that some of the SHARE staff have been away for awhile--first to the Polaris Users' Group meeting in Portland, Oregon, and then to the Illinois Library Association conference in Chicago. We have learned a great deal that will be useful to all of our libraries, so be sure to watch for our newsletters over the next few weeks. We will be sharing everything we've learned with all of you!
Complete Construction Needs Survey by October 25, 2013
Has your library completed the Construction Needs Survey? ALL public libraries should respond to this survey--even if no capital improvements are needed. Check out this week’s ISL E-news for more information. Complete and submit the survey at: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.
The migration to WorldShare ILL is moving forward. As soon as you have your accounts and training you can and should begin using WorldShare ILL exclusively for your OCLC ILL needs. WorldShare is up and working, use it.
For those of you that have not set up your WorldShare Accounts we have a new document with step-by-step instructions and tutorials to help you. It is called "Setting Up Your WorldShare ILL Account".
If you have not taken training or have taken training and need some refresher information, we have another new document. Titled "Learning How to Use WorldShare ILL", it details the training in L2 and archived training on the IHLS website. Training through OCLC, Live, Archived, or Tutorial and written documentation are also listed.
If you have questions on WorldShare ILL, please contact Beverly Obert by phone 217-352-0047 ext. 713 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
