IHLS at ILA
At the October 2013 Illinois Library Association Conference, the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial/DEMCO Award was presented to the IHLS Share Staff and SHARE Committees. The award recognizes significant achievement in resource sharing. What a great recognition for all the hard work and dedication on the part of so many in our journey to make SHARE a reality! In addition to a framed award certificate, SHARE also received a financial reward of $1,000!
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White presented a check in the amount of $985,219 to the Illinois Heartland Library System and the Reaching Across Illinois Library System for eRead Illinois. eRead Illinois is a two year grant that will fund multitype e-book pilot projects statewide. If you haven’t already, please check out our e-Read Newsletter to see how your library can participate!

Surplus Equipment at Du Quoin Office
We are pleased to announce the availability of office furniture and equipment at the Du Quoin IHLS office which have been declared surplus by the IHLS Board. More information has been posted on the IHLS website, along with a list of the items available.
Don’t forget to let your Operations Manager know when you DO NOT want delivery (days closed for holidays, conferences etc...) if they fall on one of your regularly scheduled delivery days. For example: If you normally receive delivery on Monday and there is a holiday on Monday, let us know if you do not want us to deliver. Please note, if we have access via key or alarm code, we will deliver as usual.

This week we’ve announced the launch dates for both the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 platform and the 3M Cloud Library. We also sent out tons of information in our weekly newsletter. Did you miss it? You’ll find it on the IHLS website. Plus we’ve added more informational events and trainings, so your library staff can learn all they need to know to answer patron questions. View our upcoming events below, and stay tuned for more events in the coming weeks!
- Member libraries (non-SHARE) interested in participating in the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 platform are invited to a live demo and informational session on October 30, 2013 at the Lincoln Library in Springfield. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any and all questions you might have about the Axis 360 platform and the participation in the eRead Illinois grant. Register in L2, today.
- We’ve also scheduled two 3M Cloud Library training days for SHARE members:
- On Thursday, November 7, 2013, you’re invited to sign-up in L2 for one of four hour-long sessions at the Fairview Heights Public Library.
- On Thursday, November 14, 2013, you’re invited to sign-up in L2 for one of four hour-long sessions at the Forsyth Public Library.
A great big THANK YOU to both Fairview Heights Public Library and Forsyth Public Library for allowing us to use their fabulous spaces! Virtual training events will be coming in the near future, and we’ll let you know as soon as they are scheduled.

At the SHARE Executive committee meeting this week, the decision was made to host the next semi-annual meeting in January, with member voting on the SHARE Governance Document, Bibliographic & Cataloging Policies, and Circulation & Resource Sharing Policies to take place within two weeks of the meeting. Voting will be completed electronically. A date and place for the meeting has not yet been determined.
The SHARE Executive committee has heard multiple concerns from member libraries about communication. As a result, an ad hoc committee was formed to review the effectiveness of the SHARE listservs, website, and forums.
Final Illinois Training for WorldShare ILL will be held in November. WorldShare ILL Borrowing is on November 4 or 18 and WorldShare ILL Lending is on Nov. 5 or 19. The last Overview session is scheduled for October 29. Sign up for these webinars in L2.
Each week, OCLC sends out a WorldShare ILL Tip of the Week. Several of these have been included in previous WorldShare Watch columns. OCLC has an Archive of each of these tips. The link to the Archive is http://www.oclc.org/support/
The Tip for September 12, 2013 was on Locating Your Library’s Unique URL. If when you set up your WorldShare account you did not bookmark that page, this tip is for you. Check out the Tip of the Week Archive to see what you may have missed.
If you have questions on WorldShare ILL, please contact Beverly Obert at 217-352-0047 ext. 713 or firstname.lastname@example.org
