IHLS Members Asked to Comment on the Proposed Library System Rules and Standards Changes by August 18th!

Please share your input! Illinois State Library staff members have completed a draft revision of the administrative rules and standards for Illinois library systems. That draft will be available for comment until Monday, August 18. Go to the Illinois Library System Administrative Rules and Standards blog at: http://illibrarysystemstandards.wordpress.com

This revision is of major significance and will guide the direction of system services and development for the foreseeable future. This document also includes the newly revised ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code, which impacts all agencies involved in resource sharing.

System Standards Conversations: As a system, we would like to provide opportunities that would facilitate the consideration and discussion of these documents among the membership. To that end, we have scheduled System Standards Conversation during the week of August 11-15 throughout the system.

Please note that the Illinois State Library is seeking input from all libraries on this matter, regardless of size or type. Please take a moment to read the documentation, jot down some thoughts and join us for a conversation!

IHLS Directors’ Chat Archive

IHLS would like to thank all members that attended the first IHLS Directors’ Chat yesterday. We hope you found the discussion valuable and we look forward to the next chat on Wednesday, September 3, 2014.

The IHLS Directors' Chat is a chance for IHLS library directors to chat with each other in real time about whatever questions, ideas or information they may want to share. IHLS staff will set up the chat and monitor, and will be available, but will not be directing the chat.

If you missed the Directors’ Chat, an archive of the session has been posted on the IHLS Website.

ILLINET ILL Survey

It is that time of year when libraries begin to collect their data for the ILLINET ILL survey. To help IHLS member libraries, instructions on how to gather this information from Polaris and OCLC has been developed. It can be found on the IHLS website by clicking on the IHLS Members tab, selecting Resource Sharing and on the right side of the page select the last item ISL ILLINET ILL Survey.

In the first part of the document is a link to finding the statistics in OCLC. The second part of the document gives instructions on generating the statistics in SHARE/Polaris. The direct link to these instructions is here.

Any questions on these instructions contact Bev Obert, Resource Sharing Specialist (bobert@illinoisheartland.org | 217-352-0047 ext. 713).

Public Library Per Capita and EDGE Assessment Training - August 21

On August 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., the Illinois State Library will present a workshop on the Public Library Per Capita Grant application and the EDGE Assessment. The workshop will be held in person at the IHLS Edwardsville office and via videoconference at the IHLS offices in Champaign and Du Quoin, as well as the Illinois State Library and the Decatur Public Library.

FY2015 Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grant requirements state that Illinois public libraries must have at least one staff member attend an instructional course. The technology component requires at least one library staff member and one board member to attend an informational webinar or in-person session about the Edge Initiative. Public libraries applying for the FY2015 Per Capita Grant can satisfy both requirements by participating in this training session.

Please register in L2 to attend in person at the IHLS Edwardsville location or at one of the VTEL locations: http://www.librarylearning.info/events/?eventID=18029
If you cannot attend on August 21, there is one session remaining for Friday, August 15, at the Illinois State Library.

If you have any questions, contact daggertt@ilsos.net, mdowning@ilsos.net or jurbanek@ilsos.net
