IHLS Funding News!

This week IHLS received a payment of $231,183.12, representing a second payment of our Area and Per Capita Grant. We have now received 19.6% or $659,722.21 of the total $3,364,429.41 allocation for FY2014. Many thanks to Anne Craig (Director, Illinois State Library) and Jesse White (Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian) for their continued support.

Board Candidate Write-In Seats

Voters will be given the opportunity to write in candidates for two open seats in this year’s election for the IHLS Board of Directors.

The nomination process for candidates closed on February 15. At that time, there were no candidates for one of the open public library trustee seats and no candidates for the open seat for special libraries. When you receive your ballots on March 15, you will be given a space where you can write in the name of a person who is eligible and willing to serve in the special seat and in the public library trustee seat. The person with the most write-in votes will be the winner.

The IHLS Nominating Committee reserves the right to make sure that all write-in candidates are eligible and willing to serve. If no eligible winner steps forward or is found through the write-in process, any empty seat will be filled with an appointee by the IHLS Board president, as approved by the full IHLS Board. The Nominating Committee is hoping that, by this advanced notice, you will be better prepared when you receive your ballot and begin voting.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the Nominating Committee members:

Weather Closings

Be sure to notify your hub manager if your library is going to be closed due to weather and check the IHLS website for IHLS Office closings.

Several member libraries have started using the Library Closings page. You can go to this page to see what libraries are closed on a particular day. There is also a link on the page to the form to submit your own closed date(s): http://illinoisheartland.org/?q=content/library-closings. Please use this if you are closed for weather, if you're having work done on your building, or if you have staff training that will close the library. You can specify the reason and/or the hours you will be open/closed in the Comments section (please keep the comments short).

The Library Closing page can be found on the IHLS website under the IHLS Members tab, and in the Most Requested box.

Delivery Update: Unidentified Items

We are pleased to announce that we have a new webpage under Delivery on our website. It is called Unidentified Items and it is where we will list any item that we have in any of our hubs that have no barcode nor any identifying owning library stamp. If you recognize an item as being yours, you will simply email lostbooks@illinoisheartland.org. We will then send the item to your library. I would like to thank Nick Bennyhoff for creating this page for us.

Library Jobs

Check the IHLS website for job openings on our Library Jobs tab: http://www.illinoisheartland.org/?q=library-jobs. To add a job posting to the IHLS jobs page for your library, please send to webadmin@illinoisheartland.org

Serving Our Public 3.0 order request

The updated edition of Serving Our Public 3.0: Standards for Illinois Public Libraries contains everything your library needs to complete applications for state grant programs and is an important guide for trustees and library boards.

IHLS has made a group purchase of 250 copies of Serving Our Public 3.0 for $22.50/copy. The books are available to ILA members for $25/copy. Libraries will be billed when the books are shipped. We will not utilize in-house delivery services and instead will deliver by U.S. Mail.

To offer these savings to our members, we will purchase in bulk reducing our cost to $20/copy. We will assess a $2.50 fee to cover processing and shipping.

IHLS has a limited supply, and copies will be available to IHLS member libraries on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the online order form.
