In Memoriam - Sandy Waldrop
It is with great sadness that we let you know Sandy Waldrop passed away on Tuesday. Sandy was a Cataloging Assistant in the Du Quoin office and has been a dear friend and colleague since April 1990, when she joined the Shawnee Library System.
Sandy's mom, Phyllis Littlepage, is the former director of the Johnston City Public Library.
Please keep Sandy’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Survey Results - Input for Long Range Plan
The IHLS Board of Directors would like to thank all members that took the time to complete our survey. Your input will assist the Board working on the System’s long range plan. We were pleased with the number of responses on a survey which was only open for a couple of days.
The survey responses have been posted on the website: http://illinoisheartland.org/?
Board Candidate Write-In Seats
Voters will be given the opportunity to write in candidates for two open seats in this year’s election for the IHLS Board of Directors.
The nomination process for candidates closed on February 15. At that time, there were no candidates for one of the open public library trustee seats and no candidates for the open seat for special libraries. When you receive your ballots on March 15, you will be given a space where you can write in the name of a person who is eligible and willing to serve in the special seat and in the public library trustee seat. The person with the most write-in votes will be the winner.
The IHLS Nominating Committee reserves the right to make sure that all write-in candidates are eligible and willing to serve. If no eligible winner steps forward or is found through the write-in process, any empty seat will be filled with an appointee by the IHLS Board president, as approved by the full IHLS Board. The Nominating Committee is hoping that, by this advanced notice, you will be better prepared when you receive your ballot and begin voting.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the Nominating Committee members.

Serving Our Public 3.0 order request
The updated edition of Serving Our Public 3.0: Standards for Illinois Public Libraries contains everything your library needs to complete applications for state grant programs and is an important guide for trustees and library boards.
IHLS has made a group purchase of 250 copies of Serving Our Public 3.0 for $22.50/copy. The books are available to ILA members for $25/copy. Libraries will be billed when the books are shipped. We will not utilize in-house delivery services and instead will deliver by U.S. Mail.
To offer these savings to our members, we will purchase in bulk reducing our cost to $20/copy. We will assess a $2.50 fee to cover processing and shipping.
IHLS has a limited supply, and copies will be available to IHLS member libraries on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the online order form.
Did you know you can now search which route your library is on from our website on the Delivery tab? Just go to the IHLS website (www.illinoisheartland.org) and choose the DELIVERY tab. Enter your library's name followed by the word delivery in the "search the IHLS website" box on right. One of the results will be a link to the route information for your hub. Click on that result and you will be able to view your route.

WorldShare Watch Tip of the Week
This question has been asked. “With our libraries' move to WorldShare ILL, how do patron access OCLC databases to search?”
Patrons have access to FirstSearch by going to www.firstsearch.org. This link can be placed on the library web page. If you have set up IP linking in the FirstSearch Administrative module, when patrons click on the link within the library they will go directly into the databases.
Patrons can request a book in FirstSearch if you have set-up the patron form in the FirstSearch Administrative Module. Those requests will go to a review file in WorldShare just like they did in Resource Sharing.
Don’t forget these dates:
April 14, 2014 New requests can no longer be placed in WorldCat Resource Sharing
May 19, 2014 End of access to WorldCat Resource Sharing
OCLC will launch a new Discovery tool in March. To learn about this service attend the Webinar Getting ready for WorldCat Discovery on March 25,2014 at 10:00 a.m. Come see the new suite of cloud-based applications and services that brings FirstSearch and WorldCat Local together, and hear what to do to get ready when the service is available. You'll walk away understanding what the new suite is, what it does and how it helps your library. Join us to find out what to do now, to prepare for the new service.
If you have questions on WorldShare ILL, please contact Beverly Obert (217-352-0047 ext. 713 | firstname.lastname@example.org).
Meet Jessie Palmer Weber, The Library Lady
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Formerly the Illinois State Historical Library, with the opening of the new building in 2004, the name was changed. You are invited to attend the inaugural event, "Meet Jessie Palmer Weber", on April 6, 2014, for our year long celebration. The event will be held in the Library Atrium from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
Jessie Palmer Weber was the librarian at the Illinois State Historical Library (now the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library) from 1898-1926. She is largely responsible for “growing” the collections, especially the genesis of the Lincoln Collection and the Illinois History Collection. A portrait of Jessie will be unveiled and a reception will follow. The public is invited to attend. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to www.presidentlincoln.illinois.
