November IHLS Board Meeting

The next IHLS Board meeting is Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The Board meeting will be available via videoconferencing at the IHLS Champaign, Du Quoin, and Edwardsville locations, as well as the Illinois State Library. If you are not able to join us in Effingham, perhaps one of these other locations will be more convenient. When available, you will find the November agenda and board packet here.
 

IHLS Holiday Closing

IHLS offices will also be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Extra routes will run on Monday and Tuesday, December 2-3.

eRead Illinois

We're happy to announce that a new member has joined the eRead Illinois project team! Natalie DeJonghe is the E-Book Trainer/Coordinator for RAILS. Natalie will be traveling across Illinois to deliver training and presentations on the eRead Illinois project to RAILS and IHLS non-SHARE libraries. We're delighted to have Natalie join the team.
 
SHARE members, our official launch date is almost here! On Monday, November 18, feel free to start telling your patrons about the 3M Cloud Library shared collection. For those of you that have expressed interest in participating, we'll be sending out Welcome packets next week. Don't forget, you can still request a fee quote for your library, simply fill out the 3M Fee Request Form and email it to Lesley at: lzavediuk@illinoisheartland.org or fax it to: 618.656.9401.
 
Non-SHARE members participating in the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 shared collection are now focused on implementation and preparations for the December 1st launch. Haven't requested a quote for your library? Fill out the Axis 360 Fee Request Form and email it to: ereadillinois@railslibraries.info. Quotes will be prepared and delivered to libraries in mid-December.
 

WorldShare Watch

OCLC is continuing to make improvements to WorldShare ILL. If your library is using WorldShare ILL, it is important to keep up with the changes that take place. November enhancements have been posted on the website: http://illinoisheartland.org/?q=content/article/prepare-use-new-ws-ill-features
 
If your library has not yet made the switch from WorldCat Resource Sharing to the new WorldCat ILL, I urge you to delay no longer. The old service will be going away in mid-March. 2014 ILEAD U Applications Now Available -
Webinar December 4, 2013

The State Library will host ILEAD U: Illinois Libraries Explore, Apply and Discover, The 21st Century Technology Tools Institute for Illinois Library Staff at the University of Illinois Springfield on March 24-27, June 23-26 and October 27-30, 2014. The ILEAD U Steering Committee is looking for participants, mentors and instructors to implement web technologies that foster community participation as well as develop leadership, innovation and positive change. Project ILEAD U will encourage both the experimentation with and building of participatory Web services and programs. Applications are now available for participants, instructors, and mentors until December 20, 2013 at http://www.webjunction.org/documents/illinois/ileadu/ileadu-applications.html.

Participate in Try It! Illinois Before November 30

Try-It! Illinois 2013, the fourteenth annual statewide database trial, is sponsored by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White and the Illinois State Library. Try-It! Illinois offers library staff and library users of the more than 5,000 ILLINET member libraries the opportunity to evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources and is available through November 30, 2013. More than 40 electronic resource vendors are participating in this year's trial. Thanks to the partnerships between the Illinois State Library and the participating electronic resource vendors, there is no charge for accessing these databases during Try-It! Illinois.
