Soon to be Famous Illinois Author Project

The Soon To Be Famous Illinois Author project is off to a fantastic start. Sixteen Illinois librarians have already volunteered to serve as judges and we have a number of completed nomination entries from libraries throughout the state and even more questions from authors. Local newspapers have begun to publish articles about the initiative. Please help market this project with your local newspapers, your e-newsletters and print newsletters. We are asking authors to contact their local libraries to be nominated because we anticipate that the author that we select to help make famous will be a strong library advocate. Visit www.soontobefamous.info for author and judge nomination forms. We are accepting author nominations through January 6, 2014.

The press release has been posted on the IHLS website: http://illinoisheartland.org/?q=content/article/soon-be-famous-illinois-author-project

Attention all academic and public libraries!

The ISL is looking for records of your campus/community’s participation in the March on Washington! The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office is working on a feature article commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for inclusion in the next edition of the Illinois Blue Book. Does your library’s collection contain any photographs or other materials (copyright free) of Illinois residents, students, organizations, etc., preparing for or participating in the March that could be included in the Blue Book article? If so, please respond to Lawren Tucker (ltucker@ilsos.net) with a description of the materials.

Participate in Try It! Illinois 2013

Try-It! Illinois 2013, the fourteenth annual statewide database trial, is sponsored by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White and the Illinois State Library. Try-It! Illinois offers library staff and library users of the more than 5,000 ILLINET member libraries the opportunity to evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources and is available through November 30, 2013. More than 40 electronic resource vendors are participating in this year's trial. Thanks to the partnerships between the Illinois State Library and the participating electronic resource vendors, there is no charge for accessing these databases during Try-It! Illinois. To find more information on this program, including how to access the databases, visit http://www.finditillinois.org/tryit.
