Looking for a great place to work? IHLS is looking to fill several open positions from a Cataloger in Carbondale, a Sorter in Champaign, a Marketing Coordinator in Edwardsville, and a Metadata Cataloger out of either the Edwardsville or Champaign office.

The ILA Trustee Forum Workshop will be held at the Illinois State Library in Springfield on Saturday, March 9. The workshops are designed to educate trustees on the ins-and-outs of their role and offer real-world solutions to issues affecting libraries.

Just a reminder to post a no guns sign on the front door of your library. Libraries are considered a unit of local government and are considered prohibited areas for gun owners to carry their weapons. (430 ILCS 66/65).


National Entrepreneurship Week (February 16 - 23, 2019) is dedicated to showcasing and supporting entrepreneurship throughout the United States. It is the perfect time to uncover all the ways the library can be a resource for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

To best serve our members, the IHLS delivery department is dedicated to making sure that delivery is standardized across our service area. Beginning February 2019 there will be changes to one of our standard delivery procedures.


Board of Directors imageThe Illinois Heartland Library System Board of Directors Nominating Committee is preparing for the 2019 election cycle and has opened the nomination process. The following positions on the board are up for election this year:

  • 1 Public Librarian Representative (3-year term)
  • 4 Public Library Trustee Representatives (3-year term each)


The Live from Behind the Scenes program brings Shedd experts, from trainers to veterinarians, and animals to your library for a live, virtual 50-minute interactive experience.


The FY18/19 Illinois Public Library Annual Report (IPLAR) survey is now open. Each public library is required to submit the IPLAR 60 days after the library’s fiscal year end.

The annual library certification process began on Wednesday, January 2. The deadline for certification is Sunday, March 31.

All types of libraries of libraries (academic, public, special and schools) are required to participate in this process to maintain system membership and qualify for grant programs from the Illinois State Library.
