The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is offering 30 grants for travel to its 18th National Conference & Exhibition. The conference, themed “Beyond the Horizon,” will be held Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. Full conference details can be found at national.aasl.org.
The $750 grants for first-time attendees of the conference are sponsored by Bound To Stay Bound Books. Those interested in applying can access the application at www.ala.org/aasl/btsb. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. Central time on Thus., March 31, 2017. Late applications will not be considered.
“At Bound To Stay Bound we recognize the value of the professional school librarian in our schools and take pride in being able to offer these grants to help further their knowledge and give them an opportunity to share their experiences with other professionals,” said Bob Sibert of Bound To Stay Bound Books.
"I remember my first AASL conference experience in Birmingham, Ala., in 1999," said AASL President Audrey Church. "'Awestruck' and 'speechless' are adjectives that I would use to describe my reaction — the authors, the sessions, the exhibits, interacting with colleagues from across the nation, every session being relevant to what I was doing in my school library — let’s just say that I have not missed an AASL conference since! I give sincere thanks to Bound To Stay Bound for allowing thirty first-time attendees to experience the same in 2017. BTSB's generous support provides professional growth and learning opportunities for our colleagues and allows them to join us while we celebrate AASL’s 65th birthday, launch new standards, and look 'Beyond the Horizon.'"
The AASL National Conference & Exhibition is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. The 18th National Conference & Exhibition, “Beyond the Horizon,” taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, will feature preconference workshops, concurrent sessions and an exhibition featuring companies relevant to the profession.
