Head of Reference Services - Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago invites applications from enthusiastic, self-motivated librarians to join our team. Librarians at Loyola University Chicago have faculty status and participate in University committees, but are non-tenured and receive 12 month appointments. The University Libraries recently adopted a system of rank and promotion for the library faculty.

The Head of Reference Services is responsible for the day to day operations of the Reference Department for the Lake Shore Campus and provides leadership for reference services within the University Libraries. This position works collaboratively with the Director of the Information Commons, the Head of the Lewis Library (Water Tower Campus), the Head of Access Services and other department heads to provide a high level of seamless public service. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Collections and Services.

Library System Director - Arrowhead Library System

ALS is a one-county federated library system headquartered in Janesville, Wisconsin.  The goal of the ALS is to provide open access and library services to all Rock County residents as effectively and cost efficiently as possible.  Under the general direction of a 7-member Board, the Director exercises the day-to-day administrative responsibilities for the system and provides services as set forth by policies established by the Board of Directors.  The Director works with libraries in Beloit, Clinton, Edgerton, Evansville, Janesville, Milton and Orfordville.

The position is located in Janesville, Wisconsin.  The normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The requirements for the position are:

  • Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school.
  • At least five years of professional library experience which includes three years of supervisory experience and a variety of administrative responsibilities.
  • Experience in public libraries is required.
  • Experience in regional systems and/or other types of libraries is desirable.
  • Experience in technology planning is required.
  • A valid Wisconsin driver's license and the ability to attend various meetings throughout the county and regionally.

Librarian - City of Moline

JOB CHARACTERISTICS: Under the direction of the adult/young adult services coordinator, uses professional reference and research skills, often involving multiple computer databases to provide information to the public; demonstrates initiative and creativity and exercises independent judgment in the application of a variety of established policies and procedures; maintains patron confidentiality; evaluates and selects materials for collection development within a budget; creates and conducts programming, readers’ advisory, instructional classes and outreach for both the public and staff; writes grants, policies, bibliographies and reviews; acts as back-up supervisor and as lead worker in area of responsibility; provides skilled, efficient and courteous service to the public.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Rare Book Conservator - UIUC

Position Available:  This position is available as soon as possible.  This is a 100% time, twelve month appointment Academic Professional position in the University Library.

Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the Head of Conservation, the Rare Book Conservator is responsible for the conservation treatment of rare and unique bound library materials, generally those requiring individual treatment, as well as keeping written records and photo-documentation of such work.  The Conservator will perform complex conservation treatment on rare book and special collections materials including re-sewing; leather and vellum rebinding and binding conservation; gold and blind tooling; conservation of paper and parchment, including aqueous and chemical treatment, and the creation of custom protective enclosures for a variety of rare and archival materials.  The Conservator will assist in the preparation of rare and special collections materials for exhibition, complete condition assessments and assist in the management of preventative care.  This position will provide conservation support to locations holding rare book and special collections materials by arranging workflow and identifying treatments in close consultation with collection managers and aiding in the development of care and handling guidelines for such materials.

The Rare Book Conservator assists the Conservation Unit in general training and education programs, working with practicum students and volunteers, and participating in overall conservation planning, program development, research, disaster planning and response.

Head of Technical Services- Decatur Public Library

Decatur Public Library is seeking a Head of Technical Services with an ALA-accredited MLS, and cataloging experience in a public library. Work involves all aspects of TS; acquisitions, cataloging and processing of all library materials.  Thorough knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings and AACR2, with considerable familiarity with OCLC and RDA.  Knowledge of and experience with library automation systems.  Minimum 3 years’ experience, with original cataloging experience is required.
