Youth Services Librarian

Part-time / 22-25 hours per week

Mahomet Public Library District serves Mahomet Township (population 12,600) and is located 10 miles west of Champaign-Urbana.  We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and creative individual to serve as our Youth Services Librarian.  Major responsibilities include:

  • Develop the children’s and young adult collections
  • Plan and implement youth programming, including preschool story time, school-age programs, and the summer reading program.  
  • Assist library patrons, primarily youth, with reference and the use of digital and print resources.
  • Promote youth programs and services via print and media
  • Assist with planning and implementation of occasional adult programs

The successful candidate will serve as liaison to programs in biomedical research, bioinformatics, clinical medicine, bioengineering, and medical translational sciences and will join a team of librarians addressing health information needs across campus, developing plans for research support services, and building on established collaborations with the University of Illinois at Chicago's Library of the Health Sciences.

Description:  This position maintains the U.S. Documents Collection , the Illinois Documents Collection, and the Map Collection, including solving storage and shelving problems; assists in the processing of materials received throughout the Federal Depository Library Program and the Illinois Documents Depository Program, including identifying and resolving problems with bibliographic holdings, labels, and shipping lists.  This position provides information services through assigned time at the Information/Reference Desk; requests and assists in processing documents and maps offered by other depository libraries as identified by the Government Information and Cartographic Resources Librarian; assists library users and staff in locating and using U.S. Documents, Illinois Documents, and Maps; trains, supervises, and evaluates student workers assigned to U.S. Documents, Illinois Documents, and Maps.  The Library Specialist may be assigned other related tasks in support of the Library’s mission and goals

The Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Visiting Librarian for the Illinois Early Intervention (EI) Clearinghouse, which is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The Visiting Librarian will be responsible for working with subject experts in the areas of early intervention, child development, and early care and education on collection development; managing technical services, including working with Illinois Heartland Libraries System to maintain the EI Clearinghouse online catalog; promoting the Clearinghouse through conference presentations and use of social media; managing public services and circulation; helping prepare materials for the Web site; and making the EI Clearinghouse a welcoming space for families and professionals involved in early intervention.
