This email is being sent to all libraries that nominated an author for the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project.  We have attempted to reach both the nominator and the director.

At the onset, thank you!  Bob Doyle, Illinois Library Association Executive Director, said, "The purpose of this exciting project is twofold—give a talented author exposure and spotlight the importance of libraries to literature efforts.” This project, while still unfinished, could not have moved forward had not Illinois library colleagues shared this vision.

Three finalists (photos above) have been selected from 15 round two authors that were selected from the original 103 statewide entries (see map below) submitted to the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author Project.  We thank our 23 librarian judges who served from a variety of library types from across the state.  The finalists are Rick Polad, Carol Stream, nominated by the Phillips Library at Aurora University for his book Change of Address; Mary Hutchings Reed, Chicago, nominated for her work Warming Up by the Mount Prospect Public Library; and Joanne Zienty, Wheaton, nominated by the Forest School Library in Des Plaines for her book The Things We Save.  To read their personal statements, please visit http://soontobefamous.info.

We were quite pleased to be able to announce at last night’s IHLS board meeting that we are about to receive $996,242.00 in grant funds from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and the Illinois State Library, for the purpose of Growing Resource Sharing in IHLS through Growing SHARE Membership.

Candidates for IHLS Board of Directors Election

Voting for the IHLS Board of Directors is done via an online survey/ballot. The link to that survey was distributed via the IHLS Announce listserv on March 15, 2014. EACH MEMBER LIBRARY RECEIVES JUST ONE VOTE. This is a preview ballot for viewing the candidates prior to voting.

New to the election this year is a provision for write-in candidates for 2 of the seats. Because there were no nominees to fill the open Special Library seat and one of the Public Library Trustee seats, voters will be able to write in a candidate as they cast their ballot. The eligible nominee with the most votes will win the respective seat. Eligibility will be verified by the IHLS Nominating Committee. If no eligible candidate steps forward in this election, any empty seat will be filled by the IHLS Board President, as approved by the full IHLS Board.

Please consult with your board, branches, or others as needed prior to voting. One designated person should then vote on behalf of the entire member library using the link distributed on the IHLS Announce listserv.

VOTING DEADLINE: 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, APRIL 15, 2014
