Growing Resource Sharing in IHLS Grant Announcement

The secret we’ve been keeping is now public knowledge, and we can tell you what it is! IHLS staff have been working on a grant—commonly known as the Dream Grant among SHARE staff—for the last couple of months. We were quite pleased to be able to announce at last night’s IHLS board meeting that we are about to receive $996,242.00 in grant funds from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and the Illinois State Library, for the purpose of Growing Resource Sharing in IHLS through Growing SHARE Membership.

Candidates for IHLS Board of Directors Election

Voting for the IHLS Board of Directors is done via an online survey/ballot. The link to that survey was distributed via the IHLS Announce listserv on March 15, 2014. EACH MEMBER LIBRARY RECEIVES JUST ONE VOTE. This is a preview ballot for viewing the candidates prior to voting.

New to the election this year is a provision for write-in candidates for 2 of the seats. Because there were no nominees to fill the open Special Library seat and one of the Public Library Trustee seats, voters will be able to write in a candidate as they cast their ballot. The eligible nominee with the most votes will win the respective seat. Eligibility will be verified by the IHLS Nominating Committee. If no eligible candidate steps forward in this election, any empty seat will be filled by the IHLS Board President, as approved by the full IHLS Board.

Please consult with your board, branches, or others as needed prior to voting. One designated person should then vote on behalf of the entire member library using the link distributed on the IHLS Announce listserv.

VOTING DEADLINE: 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, APRIL 15, 2014

IHLS Board Election voting ends April 15

Voting is now underway for the 5 open seats on the IHLS Board of Directors. Seats to be filled are: 1 Academic Library Representative 1 Special Library Representative 1 School Library Representative 2 Public Library Trustee Representatives Please read these instructions carefully prior to voting:

Managing ILL Policies and Fees

WorldShare ILL Tip of the Week: Managing ILL Policies and Fees

OCLC WorldShare® Interlibrary Loan displays your ILL fee range based on what you have defined in the OCLC® Policies Directory.  Accurate fee information assists you and other libraries in completing interlibrary loans. To make sure your fees are as clear as possible, update your policies in the Policies Directory.

To update your ILL fees and policies, log in to the OCLC Policies Directory and update your library’s information under the Policies tab.  Remember to create multiple policies if you have different fees for different groups or types of libraries (for example, free for in state libraries, but charge for out of state).

For further information, please see the Policies Directory quick reference.

Public Libraries: Non-Resident Fee Survey Now Available

IHLS is required to maintain a list on the IHLS website of non-resident program information from IHLS public libraries and to indicate whether or not a library participates in the non-resident fee program and what that fee is.  Each year IHLS asks all IHLS public libraries for this information.  This information is being gathered by a survey found at this link  The deadline for completion of the survey is June 15, 2014

Each public library board is required to take action each year on whether to participate in the non-resident program and to determine the fee for non-resident cards.  Additional information on the non-resident fee program can be found on the Illinois State Library website.
