A New Year, and A New Staff Assignment
Juliette Douglas has accepted the position of Operations Director, a new position in our organization.  She will combine this half-time position with her half-time Human Resources duties.  Her primary focus in the new role will be delivery operations and facilities management.  We are fortunate to benefit from Juliette’s broad background in facilities and financial analysis, combined with her considerable experience in logistics and operations.

We plan to further refine our staffing to take full advantage of our staff experience and credentials, toward our goal of providing an improved customer experience!

Help Plan On the Front Lines Conference
The Illinois State Library will host On the Front Lines: Engaging Our Communities next March 12–14 at the University of Illinois Springfield. On the Front Lines is designed to equip and enlighten “front-line” staff persons with training, technology tools, and techniques that will enable them to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of their patrons. The On the Front Lines planning committee is seeking input from the Illinois library community about topics of interest for possible participants. Technology will be a major theme of the event.

Please complete this short survey by December 2. Information concerning registration, speakers, scholarships and logistics will be posted later on L2.

IHLS Offices Closed next Thursday and Friday
Illinois Heartland Library System offices will be closed next Thursday and Friday, November 24th and 25th, in observance of Thanksgiving.  All four will reopen Monday, November 28th, and additional delivery routes may run to compensate for volume.

Big Delivery Day!
The IHLS delivery staff is committed to providing the best service to our member libraries.  Since the IHLS offices were closed last Friday for Veteran’s Day, the drivers were very busy on Monday.  Additional delivery routes ran to compensate for the increased volume.  Tubs and bags were everywhere.

Between the four offices, Carterville, Champaign, Decatur and Edwardsville, the drivers either picked up or delivered over 45,000 items on Monday.  So, are libraries still relevant?  The patrons of the IHLS member libraries seem to think so.
